Call: Scientists for Nature Challenge 2025

Published on March 17, 2025

We would like to invite you to participate in one of two Scientists for Nature Challenges 2025, launched by the Families for Nature Foundation and its Families for Nature circle in collaboration with the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.

A Quantum Leap for Biodiversity

This science challenge aims to find and highlight scalable, revolutionary technologies and novel approaches to halt and reverse biodiversity loss and its impact on nature, climate, and local communities.

A Quantum Leap for Nature Finance

This science challenge seeks scalable and novel financial mechanisms and business models which unlock transformative capital flows to fund self-sustaining and profitable economic activity, driving meaningful change for both nature and humanity.

Who Can Apply?

Proposals from all scientific disciplines are accepted. We especially encourage multi-disciplinary proposals as well as any technical, non-technical, or mixed approaches. We welcome applications from both individuals and groups. Your project proposal can fall into one of two broad categories:

  • Ground-breaking early-stage research
  • Scalable ideas close to implementation

 Evaluation and Final Presentations

Submitted proposals will be evaluated by a panel of leading scientific experts. Finalists will be invited to present their projects at the Scientists for Nature Action Circle in Lindau:

  • ‘A Quantum Leap for Biodiversity’: Monday, 30 June 2025, during the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Chemistry
  • ‘A Quantum Leap for Nature Finance’: Wednesday, 27 August 2025, during the 8th Lindau Nobel Meeting in Economic Sciences

Funding and Support

Winning projects will receive:

  • Generous philanthropic, non-dilutive funding to advance the project
  • Mentoring from experts in the field
  • Access to both foundations’ networks to amplify impact

A limited budget for basic travel expenses is available upon request, contingent on internal review. We encourage applicants to seek travel support from their home institutions.

How to Apply

To enter the challenge, submit a brief project description (max. 1 page, font size 11, in PDF format) by 1 April 2025, midnight CEST to [email protected].

Please name your PDF file: <LastName_FirstName_Challenge>.

Your project description should include:

  • A concise, descriptive title
